MOTHERS' UNION CENTENARY
The Ammanford branch of the Mothers' Union has marked its centenary with two celebratory events. The local branch was founded in 1908 with 14 members.
A special service was held at St. Michael's church on November 6th when the guest preacher was Rev. Bryan Witt (M.U. Diocesan Chaplain). Present were M.U. members from Monkton, Pembrokeshire, (Ammanford's link branch), together with their Vicar, Rev. Martin Cox and his wife Barbara.
The service was followed by tea at the Church Hall and a celebration cake made and given by Mrs. Elaine Morgan of Garnswllt.
An anniversary dinner was held at the Mountain Gate, Tycroes on November 21st and this was attended by M.U. diocesan officials Rev. Bryan Witt (Chaplain), Mrs Ann Gill ({resident), Mrs. Mari Thomas (Deanery Leader) and Mrs. Heather Witt (Action and Outreach Secretary). Also present were Ammanford branch officials Mrs Eve Rees (Branch Leader), Mrs Maureen Lewis (Treasurer) and Mrs Anthea Williams (Secretary).
The Vicar of Betws with Ammanford, Rev. Delyth Bowen presented corsages to Mrs Eve Rees, Mrs Gladys Walters and Mrs Nanie Prout (both have been M.U. members for 60 years). The Vicar also presented commemorative coasters to the diocesan officials and Mrs Anthea Williams presented the Vicar with a commemorative coaster.
A centenary cake was given by Mrs Nana Phillips and made by Mrs Rosemary Norman.
